Horn Choirs Wanted!
keveli music is seeking consortium members...
The Northwest Horn Orchestra, featuring former and current members of the Oregon Symphony, Portland Opera Orchestra, and the horn sections of other professional Northwest ensembles, has commissioned 2011 Pulitzer Prize nominee and 2012 Grawemeyer Award nominee Kevin M. Walczyk to compose a work for horn choir and rhythm section.
now is your opportunity to join!
Keveli Music, who will publish the work, is looking for professional, community and university horn clubs, choirs, or studios that are interested in becoming a member of the commissioning consortium. The buy-in fee is $250 and consortium members are acknowledged in the publication in perpetuity, receive a complete set of performance materials, have a one-year window to perform the work before it is made available to non-consortium members, and partake in the creation of a new work for horn choir.
Instrumentation for the work will be for 8 horns, 4 Wagner tubas (there will be two sets of substitute parts for the Wagner tubas - one set for 4 horns, and another set for 2 euphoniums and 2 tubas), piano, acoustic bass, drum set, and percussion (1 player). The composition, with a current working title of
MATINEE MUSIC, is intended to be a fusion of film underscore stylings and jazz inflections. The work's primary melody will portray a dramatic story through several "cues" representing various moods and will play out in one movement, without breaks between each "cue". A hornist himself, the composer intends the work to be accessible to university level horn choirs, community horn clubs, and professional horn ensembles alike.
timeline...
The work will become available to consortium members in spring 2012. The Northwest Horn Orchestra, as lead consortium member, will have premiere performance rights with a proposed premiere in early spring 2012. The remainder of the consortium will have exclusive performance rights during the 2012-13 season. The work will then become available to non-consortium members in late spring/early summer 2013.
worried about paying a commissioning fee?
Keveli Music has long been dedicated to forming consortium commissioning projects in order to give performing organizations the opportunity to participate in the commissioning process without paying large commissioning fees. This is accomplished by asking multiple members of a consortium to "split" the commissioning fee. Keveli Music has flexible payment methods, including:
- Direct payment by credit card online
- Using Google Checkout. Simply select the $250 image to the left (or click here) to instantly register your commission fee and become a member of the consortium;
- Direct payment by credit card offline - Using Google Checkout. Contact Keveli Music directly to have your credit card processed offline;
- Purchase Orders - Keveli Music has a Federal Tax ID and can process institution and university purchase orders. Contact Keveli Music directly to obtain an invoice;
- Checks - personal or representing your organization.
Still not sure? Payments for the horn choir commission consortium are not due to Keveli Music until the work has been completed and all performance materials have been received by you and/or your organization. Furthermore, Keveli Music can provide multiple payment installments for those organizations that do not currently have the full commissioning fee available and who do not want to miss out on the opportunity to join the consortium. Please express your interest in participating in the consortium even if you do not currently have funding available.
